30"x40" In today's post-industrial societies Nature can be said to be nothing but a dead referent, a misplaced reality one still naively calls upon when in the wild or when falling in love. The way we embrace Nature appears now abstracted, if not merely negative as just the opposite of manufactured landscapes. In that perspective billboards stand in the American aesthetic horizon with a particular stylistic brutality, echoing the tension between reality and directed images. In my series billboards are repopulated by dirt, which lonely standing characters drain away, ticking them closer to dust every passing second.
