The Most Beautiful Woman

oil on board, 60"x48" What is mythology but an attempt at fitting the inner and the outer worlds or the mundane and the empyreal worlds together? Art, or at least my art, is an attempt at the sam. My first loves are the figure and mythology; my seconds are light and color. What I do in my painting is to take the mythology that surrounds us and find its embodiment in people around me and bring these old stories to a very personal level. These stories become my personal mythology and I delve into the emotions i feel behind them, the protagonists speak to me as if they were my companions in the day-to-day world. On the technical side my work is about the marriage of the immediacy of thick paint and color mixing on the canvas, scumbling and subtle glazing and washes to build up to fall like light.
